Rapper Chinx Shot and Killed in New York

Early hours of Sunday morning (17th May, 2015), news broke out that fast rising rapper Chinx had been shot and killed in his home borough of New York.

The news hit the net after rumours were circulating, then was later confirmed by fellow New York rapper Maino who posted a photo on his Instagram account with the caption saying: “Smdh...#Unbelievable!!!” 

Chinx, whose real name is Lionel Pickens was French Montana's right hand man and a member of French's record label Coke Boys Records. Known for his dope flow, Chinx has released numerous mixtapes from 2009 up until 2014 and was even planning on releasing a new mixtape ‘Flight 2015’ later on in the year, with producer Harry Fraud. His debut LP ‘Welcome to JFK’ was in the works, and was rumoured to have also been released this year.

According to New York Daily News, Chinx was shot multiple times, and a 27-year-old passenger in his Porsche (now confirmed to be Coke Boys affiliate Yemen) was hit twice in the back, at about 4 a.m. in Jamaica, Queens, New York. 

Chinx, who was 31 was found with gunshot wounds to his torso and was pronounced dead at Jamaica Medical Centre. Yemen is currently in critical condition.

Stars including Diddy, Meek Mill, Fabolous, Juelz Santana, The Weeknd, Wiz Khalifa, Khloe Kardashian, Rob Kardashian and more have all sent their condolences.

French Montana is still yet to make a statement or post anything about what has happened on his social media.

Report: Rising Star Sona Wrongfully Convicted For Robbery He Did Not Commit

"You'll know who's truly in your corner once sh*t hits the fan!"

Last week Tuesday (4th November 2014), it hit the news that rising star Sona had been sentenced to 4 years in prison for "robbing a pensioner" alongside a friend of his. Once the news was shared on Twitter via various news outlets, there was an instant uproar, with some people bashing Sona for what he supposedly done, and others wishing him well saying he'll come back bigger and better. 

Well, I chose not to speak on it via my Twitter account or my blog or any other social media platform of mine, as I did not know the full story of what happened, despite what news outlets including The Standard and LBC News had reported. And I chose to respect Sona and his family's privacy during this tough time, as not only is he a rising artist that I rate so highly, but also a friend of mine. 

Sona is known for his three hit singles this year ‘No Wahala’, ‘Ijo Sona’ and ‘Omode Yi’ which have garnered him over half a million streams/views in just over seven months, plus support and critical acclaim from the likes of BBC 1Xtra, Capital Xtra, BET International and more.

Today, 13th November 2014 - the family and Sona's management/PR team have issued the official press statement, and I have it here for you to read, and they are saying that Sona has been wrongfully convicted for a robbery that he did not commit.

It's a great week for Afrobeats as singer Moelogo has signed a major record deal with Island Records through EGA Records, making him the first Afrobeat artist under their roster.

JoJo Signs Deal with Atlantic Records, (Finally) Released From Blackground!

The angels are singing! I don't know what song, but they're singing alright!

Singer JoJo has finally been released from Blackground records. For those who know, JoJo had been in a constant battle with the record label and has now been released from her contract after the long fight. After filing a lawsuit from the record label who is owned by Barry Hankerson (uncle to the late Aaliyah), in July - JoJo has finally won! At one point JoJo even revealed to the world in an interview with MaximoTV stating "I don't own my voice", that's how deep it got!

Well now, according to the good folks over at LA Times, it reports that JoJo has been released from the messy situation and has now signed to Atlantic Records (back in December 2013) - where she'll release her third studio album later this year.

JoJo's loyal fans stuck with her throughout the whole battle and even took to twitter to campaign for her release from the label. And I'm sure they're more than over the moon for her victory!

After having a bumpy 2013 - 2014 is looking up for the ‘Andre’ singer will also star in a new high school comedy titled ‘G.B.F.’ out this coming Friday in the States.

Eve To Star in New "Interracial Romantic Comedy" TV Show on ABC

Well, isn't this an irony. It might as well just be an autobiography on her life.

Executive TV producer - Aaron Kaplan is excited to announce that the newly-engaged rapper - Eve will appear in his new TV now. 

Eve has been in an interracial relationship with British fashion designer - Maximillion Cooper since 2010, got engaged in December 2013; so this show comes at perfect timing for her.

Eve is no stranger to the small screen, after she had three seasons of her own scripted television show titled ‘Eve’ where she played a boutique business owner by the name of Shelly Williams, and was broadcast on the channel UPN. She has also starred in the movies ‘Barbershop’ one and two, ‘The Cookout’, ‘4.3.2.1’, ‘The Woodsman’ and much more.

The Aaron Kaplan project will begin it's development season in 2014-2015, I'll be keeping you updated on the show. In the meantime - congratulations to Eve on her engagement and new endeavor.

Congratulations: Lola Monroe is Pregnant!

Female rapper Lola Monroe is expecting her first child.

The first lady of Taylor Gang records posted the good news on her twitter account alongside the father of the baby - rapper King Los who is currently signed to Diddy's record label Bad Boy.

Both Lola and Los hail from the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia areas) shared the good news with their fans and supporters saying:

Lola Monroe: “Merry Christmas from my family to your ❤ … #BlessedBeyondWords,” 

King Los: “Christmas 2012 with @thee_lolamonroe + 1 ... Best gift of all !!!!”

Trinidad James: Signs To Def Jam

Trinidad James is taking his buzz to the bank. The “All Gold Everything” rapper has signed a lucrative deal with Def Jam Recordings.

Hot on the heels of his ubiquitous single, Billboard.com has confirmed that the 25-year-old will join the label’s star-studded roster, which includes Kanye West, Rick Ross, 2 Chainz, and Young Jeezy.

After being pursued by several labels including Atlantic Records, he chose Def Jam as his new home. The deal, rumored to be worth $2 million, also includes a joint venture with James’ Gold Gang Records.

“We’re excited to welcome a young talent like Trinidad James to the Def Jam family,” the label’s president, Joie Manda, told Billboard. “Def Jam prides itself as both a cornerstone of hip-hop’s rich tradition, and as a vital, forward-thinking label dedicated to breaking and nurturing emerging artists. Trinidad James represents the cutting-edge of what’s happening in the culture today. We are thrilled to have him at the label, and look forward to growing his already massive buzz.”

The Atlanta-bred rapper dropped his mixtape Don’t Be S.A.F.E. on iTunes earlier this month, while his single “All Gold Everything” has become a viral sensation, racking up 2.8 million views on YouTube and receiving the remix treatment from rappers including Tyga.

“Def Jam, thank you for believing,” said James, who can also be heard on “That Turn Up” off Mike WiLL Made It’s upcoming mixtape Est. in 1989 Pt. 2.5.

R.I.P Natina Reed of 'Blaque'

Sad news for R&B/Hip Hop fans worldwide as we have lost an angel. 

Rapper Natina Reed formerly of the R&B platinum girl group 'Blaque' died in a sudden car accident in Atlanta, on Friday evening (October 26th 2012) at around 10:59PM. 

I pray she rests in perfect peace, above all - I pray for her family and her 10 year old son that she left behind, whose Father is rapper Kurupt. I also pray God comforts them all in this tough time they're going through. 

Natina Reed would have turned 33 today (October 28th), it's a shame her life was taken so short. She was also the protege to the late rapper/TLC member - Lisa 'Left Eye' Lopes.

A Facebook 'like' page has been created for the artist, like the page here and her fellow Blaque members, Brandi Williams and Shamari Fears took it to their twitter accounts to express their hurt and emotions towards the death.

Report: Chris Brown & Karrueche Officially Split!

This split was bound to happen! 

Chris Brown and his girlfriend of 11 months to a year, Karrueche Tran have officially split earlier this week. After a whole lot of rumours that Chris & his ex-girlfriend, singer Rihanna were back together or shall I say "secretly hooking up", this week they proved us right by sitting close together at the new Barclays centre in New York, Chris leaving Rihanna's hotel and them getting comfy at a club in New York. And a new picture for us to feast our eyes on (below) - Chris & Rihanna were slowing making public appearances with each other. 

I sure know Rihanna must have been feeling like the Queen B, get it gurl.

Chris Brown released an official statement [via TMZ] read below:

"I have decided to be single to focus on my career. I love Karrueche very much but I don't want to see her hurt over my friendship with Rihanna. I'd rather be single allowing us to both be happy in our lives."

I seriously feel for Karrueche in this situation, but I don't understand why she never left his azz first?! Karrueche I love you like a sister (even though we don't know each other) - holla at me for that "feel good" break up music playlist.

Report: Memphitz Files A Lawsuit Against VH1 and 'Love and Hip Hop Atlanta' Producers

Say what now? Memphitz is NOT playing! 

Slaps VH1 and Producers of Love and Hip Hop AKA Mona Scott-Young with a LAWSUIT!

And I got all the HOT gossip right here on It's Just Mobolaji! [Thanks to a few friends that is!]

Right. Long story short! Memphitz who is now married to Toya Carter-Wright, Lil' Wayne's baby mother, is now suing the the producers of the show 'Love and Hip Hop Atlanta' and VH1. Memphitz is suing approximately one dollar per viewer per episode (get yo' life!) for "damages" from the "defamatory statements and denigrating actions" cast member K. Michelle (Kimberly Michelle Pate).  

For those of you who do not watch Love and Hip Hop Atlanta, K Michelle (singer) was signed to Jive records under music executive and boyfriend at that time, Memphitz, and was later involved in a domestic violence incident with the music executive. Basically, K Michelle got her ass beat by Memphitz and mentioned it on the show BUT never mentioned the name of the guy that beat her ass. K Michelle has used the show as a platform to get her message across to other women and young girls/ladies to be more aware of domestic violence. And since then K Michelle has been involved in Domestic Violence Campaigns.

Memphitz whose real name is Mickey Wright released this official statement:

“My family and I have suffered tremendously while VH-1, Monami Ent., and the other companies provided a worldwide platform for K. Michelle to repeatedly assassinate my character. The filing of this suit is to compensate for the irreparable damage that has been done to my reputation and to deter these companies from doing such future harm to others.”

BOY!!! K Michelle ain't never mentioned your name in the show, it's your guilty conscience talking. Take a seat at the back of the class and shut up! Let's just hope that this lawsuit doesn't slap him back in the face.
