Janelle Monáe Announces UK Tour Dates, May 2014

It's been a long time coming, but the beautiful and multi-talented artist Janelle Monáe will finally grace the stage at some of the UK's hottest venues for her first official headlined show this coming May. 

‘The Electric Lady’ released her sophomore album back in September 2013 and received so much love for the two disc LP. Hitting London, Birmingham and Manchester for the three-day-tour this May, Monáe has also been nominated for a BRIT Award for Best International Female Artist; a well deserved nomination.

Janelle Monáe will be headlining with her full band - The Wondaland Arts Society and the tour will see her perform some of our favourite hits off ‘The Electric Lady’ including ‘Q.U.E.E.N.’, ‘PrimeTime’, ‘Dance Apocalyptic’, ‘Ghetto Woman’, ‘The Electric Lady’ and much more. 

Tickets for Janelle Monáe's UK tour go on sale this coming Friday (7 February) at 9am via Gigs and Tours. The tour dates are as followed:

One of my favourite songs off ‘The Electric Lady’ album by Miss Janelle Monáe has officially been released. ‘PrimeTime’ is a sultry soulful number, with a dark steamy video featuring singer - Miguel.

The video is seen to be a futuristic romantic music video in prime time with both Monáe and Miguel delivering their all in this video.

New Music: Janelle Monáe - PrimeTime ft. Miguel

Ow! Janelle Monáe duets with Miguel on her newest single ‘PrimeTime’. The soulful track sees both Janelle and Miguel sing in a sultry and steamy way.

The song will appear on Janelle Monáe's upcoming forthcoming studio album ‘The Electric Lady’ in stores September 10.

New Video: Goodie Mob - Special Education ft. Janelle Monáe

Reunited and it feels so good! Goodie Mob have been reunited and will release their fifth album this August. 

The crew take it back to their high school days, with this high school themed music video for ‘Special Education’. The video sees mini-me's of Goodie Mob and Janelle Monáe all portrayed in the video directed by John Columbo.

‘Special Education’ will appear on Goodie Mob's forthcoming album ‘Age Against The Machine’ out August 27.

Janelle Monáe: Album Cover to ‘The Electric Lady’ and Tracklisting Unveiled

Janelle Monáe is ready for her fans to hear what she's been working on in the past few years, with her sophomore release ‘The Electric Lady’. Photographed above is a striking and futuristic Monáe in her signature black and this time with a grey/off white colour. Either way, she dazzles.

‘The Electric Lady’ will be a two part disc album with her lead single ‘Q.U.E.E.N.’ featuring Erykah Badu, as well as never before heard tracks before. Guest appearances include Prince on ‘Givin Em What They Love’, Solange on ‘Electric Lady’, Miguel on ‘PrimeTime’ and Esperanza Spalding on ‘Dorothy Dandrige Eyes’. Janelle Monáe pulls out all the stops on this album and isn't holding back at all.

The CoverGirl spokeswoman is set to release the album on September 10 and it is bound to be a good one. Check out the tracklisitng below.

Just last week I blogged about a new song from Janelle Monáe featuring neo-soul artist Erykah Badu titled "Q.U.E.E.N." and now the official video is here. The song is the first official single and video off Janelle Monáe's brand new album 'The Electric Lady'. Janelle Monáe keeps it true to herself by wearing black and white in this black and white themed music video.

A beautiful message behind the song - we need more songs like this out! Janelle Monáe and Erykah Badu did a great job with the uniqueness of this video. Janelle Monáe's rap at the end of this song is everything!

Flicks: Magazine Covers Special - Janelle Monae and Brandy!

Recently winning a Grammy award this year with the group fun. Janelle Monae graces the cover of Essence magazine - looking absolutely flawless. Other than her amazing voice, and being signed to Diddy's record label 'Bad Boy' alongside French Montana, Cassie, Kalenna and MGK, Janelle Monae is known for wearing black and white uniformed/tailored suits.

In speaking with Essence magazine, the singer addressed a few things including wearing suits, beauty and new artists that have stepped onto the scene that she loves.

On her decision keeping her body concealed:

"People don't ask Jay-Z to take his shirt off when he rhymes," she says defiantly. Her refusal to let it all hang out is a major part of her attempt to "redefine what it means to be sexy and what it means to be a woman. Showing my skin is not what makes me sexy," she declares. "I like skirts and dresses just like everyone else, but I had a message I needed to put out there. It was up to me to show people and young girls there was another way."

On wearing suits:

"I enjoy the tuxedo and I enjoy suits. They are timeless and transcendent 18th century, 19th century, 20th century all the way to 2719. I think the tuxedo will outlive us.

On how she defines beauty:

"I love givers and when I find out someone is giving somebody else something from the heart... I think people who give their time are some of the most beautiful people that I know."

On new artists that she loves:

"I love Miguel, Frank Ocean, I'm just excited about new artist bringing forward their ideas and continuing on the legacies of some of the greats, the icons, that we were inspired by, that our music was inspired by. Just sharing their voice unfiltered being unafraid to embrace those things and make them unique, remain innovative. I love people who are into big ideas and whatnot. So I am really excited about some of the new artists.

“It’s never an off day for me. Even if you have the frumpiest clothes on and you got swag, you can make that shit look good. In the next three years I want to have my own clothing line.” 

On his early life as a rookie …

“Being 17 with 28, 29 and 30 year old basketball players, there was sort of a maturity aspect to it. I had a great opportunity to start earlier than most people. So while a few guys my age are only four or five years in, this is my ninth year. So it really helped impact my maturity level.”

“It’s going to be easier for me on the road. When you have seen a group of guys for several months throughout the year, [opposed] to someone who has been there your whole life it’s a totally different situation.
